Jack Flanagan Cuts Through the Rhetoric

I read Kat McGhee’s legislative update published on the Hollis Brookline News Online on September 19th. It’s disappointing to see an elected representative deride legislative efforts to ensure that New Hampshire’s voting procedures are secure and accessible, that our state’s most economically vulnerable families have access to the same quality education we have here in Hollis and Brookline, and to scare women into thinking that our unrestricted access for abortion up to the 6th month of pregnancy (with exceptions into the 3rd trimester) is somehow not enough. It’s clear from Rep. McGhee’s message that her campaign strategy is to stoke fear and keep the voters in the dark about some groundbreaking accomplishments led by Republicans in Concord. 

The fact is that Democrat legislative priorities have been out of step with the citizens of our state, and they are so unpopular that Democrats won’t even discuss them with honesty. Here are some of the legislative efforts pushed by elected Democrats: 

- Remove the tax exemptions of churches 

- Tax your carbon footprint 

- Reverse the phase out of the Interest and Dividend tax 

- Give driver’s licenses to undocumented individuals here illegally

- Ban gasoline powered cars 

- Increase your utility bills by mandating Massachusetts-style “green energy” taxation

- Keep sexual-explicit material in school libraries

- Keep parents out of their children's education

During the next month, I encourage all voters to dig a little deeper past the bumper-sticker messaging and really understand the plan Democrats have in store for our state.

It’s time to ignore the partisan rhetoric and choose representatives willing to tackle our state’s biggest challenges with honesty and fact-based solutions.
