Republican Candidates Give Voice to the People

How Our Town Hall on NH’s Abortion Law Gave a Voice to All, Even Our Opponents

This past week, the Common Sense Candidate Team did something rare in politics: we hosted a town hall on New Hampshire’s abortion law and welcomed everyone to participate. In the spirit of free speech, we even gave our opposing State Rep. candidates the microphone at our Republican event, ensuring their voices were heard. We posed two important questions to the audience: “What is your perspective of the current NH Law?” and “What are ways we can work together to reduce the number of abortions?” We didn’t use the town hall to gain political points, nor did we criticize any comments made during the event on social media (see comment screenshot below). And yet, we were criticized for using our own event to clearly state our position on the law. We firmly believe that voters deserve to know exactly where candidates stand on issues as important as this, and it would have been a disservice to avoid discussing our views openly.

It's disappointing to see some of our Democrat opponents using this open discussion to criticize the event and continue spreading fear about New Hampshire’s abortion law. Elected Democrats seem intent on stoking unnecessary fear about a law that already allows unrestricted access to abortion up to six months of pregnancy. Furthermore, they appear determined to push for unrestricted abortion up until birth—an extreme position that most voters, regardless of party, do not support.

One of the main complaints is that New Hampshire’s law includes penalties for doctors who violate it. But any law, to be meaningful, must have consequences for those who break it. This law simply ensures that medical professionals are held accountable for performing abortions past the six-month mark unless under specific, lawful circumstances. Without such accountability, the law would be meaningless, and it’s essential to have safeguards in place to protect both patients and the integrity of the legal process.

The Common Sense Candidate Team remains committed to fostering open dialogue on challenging issues. We value free speech and respectful debate. Above all, we appreciate everyone who attended and contributed to the town hall.
